Unable to load the Welcome page after installing new version

Description
When you uninstall an older version of Actian DataConnect and install a newer version, and then try to load an already existing workspaces, you may encounter strange behavior, including (but not limited to) not being able to load the Welcome page.
Cause/Solution
 
Cause: Some old version files and folders are not deleted.
Solution: Do the following:
1. Shut down DataConnect.
2. Go into the {Workspace} /.metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.e4.workbench directory and delete the workbench.xmi file. This is a cache file that will get recreated on startup.
3. Then go into {userdir} (that is Users/{your login}) and remove the .eclipse folder if it exists.
4. Relaunch DataConnect.
