Java Requirement
Actian Director Desktop Client requires a Java version 1.7 or later runtime to be installed prior to running the product.
The native libraries of the management server (iimgmtsvr) are built to match the same architecture or “bitness” (32- or 64-bit) as the underlying database installation that they are meant to manage. Both iimgmtsvr and Director are Java programs that, apart from these native code libraries, could be run by either a 32-bit or a 64-bit Java Virtual Machine (JVM). However, because iimgmtsvr links directly to these native libraries (and thus to the Ingres native libraries), it must be run with a JVM of the same bitness as the Actian database installation.
This requirement also applies to an instance of Director that is installed inside an Actian database installation: to manage the local installation, the JVM used to run Director must be the same bitness as Ingres or Actian Vector. However, if Director is installed elsewhere—outside of an Ingres installation (a typical location for the Director installer to put it)—then it can be run by a JVM of any bitness (32- or 64-bit) on the machine.
On a hybrid or reverse-hybrid Ingres installation on Linux, the JVM bitness to run iimgmtsvr must be the main bitness of the installation (64-bit for hybrid or 32-bit for reverse-hybrid).
