The stop functionality shuts down an Actian database instance. When it is invoked, Director checks that the user has the Ingres SERVER_CONTROL privilege and at least the Name Server component is running. If it is not running, attempting to execute the command displays an error dialog explaining why the instance cannot be stopped.

You can also stop individual server components, including non-default configurations of server components.
