Possible Gateway Configurations
The gateway can be included in a variety of configurations, each to suit the needs of a particular user community. The following diagrams illustrate three sample systems.
Local Gateway Configuration
This diagram illustrates a local configuration:
Gateway Configuration
*Client: OpenROAD, JDBC, ODBC, OpenAPI, Embedded SQL
Mixed Gateway Configuration
This diagram illustrates a possible remote access configuration:
*Client: OpenROAD, JDBC, ODBC, OpenAPI, Embedded SQL
Remote Gateway Configuration
This diagram illustrates a remote configuration:
*Client: OpenROAD, JDBC, ODBC, OpenAPI, Embedded SQL
Host Net: (1) Microsoft SQL Server Remote
     (2) Oracle SQL*Net
Other combinations of the tools are possible, with various components being either local or remote. In the preceding diagrams, each of these systems could contain anything from a personal computer to a mainframe-as long as the software component is available for that platform. Because the Ingres tools, gateways, and communication components are available on different hardware platforms, many configurations are possible.
