Actian Director requires a Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 1.7.0 or later.

Director has a server component (Management Server) and a client component (Director). Both the server and client require a JRE. For a 32-bit Ingres instance, you must use a 32-bit JRE for the Management Server. For a 64-bit Ingres instance, you must use a 64-bit JRE.

We recommend you install a JRE prior to installing Ingres. You can install Ingres without the required JRE, but you will not be able to use the Director. To use the Director, you will need to install the JRE and then run a separate post-installation script. For further details, see the Actian Director User Guide.

Windows: Ingres for Windows includes the Visual DBA suite of tools delivered with earlier releases. These tools do not require a JRE. While you can continue to use the Visual DBA tools, we recommend using the Director whenever possible.
