DataCloud Backup authenticates users based on their user name and password. The username/password is used during agent registration only. The communication to authenticate the user at the backup service is performed over an encrypted channel. We never store the username/password locally on your machine but use your credentials to retrieve a digitally signed certificate that is used for further calls to the backup service.
