Compile a Report
Compiling generates the dynamic 4GL procedure for a report without running the report.
To compile a report
2. Click File, Compile.
The Running Report dialog appears. This dialog lets you run the report against the database and save it to an output file.
3. If necessary, enter the name of the database to which you want the report to connect.
4. If desired, enter any connect flags in the DBMS Connect Flags field.
5. If desired, enter the directory path name in the Output File Directory entry field.
6. Enter the name of the report file you want to send output to in the File field. The file must have an extension.
Alternatively, click the folder icon to the right of the File field to select an existing output file to replace.
The file name you enter or select is for a temporary file that holds the current report prior to printing. Each time the report is run, this file is overwritten.
7. (Optional) Check the Run and Popup Errors options.
• If the Run option is unchecked, the current report does not run and an existing temporary file is printed directly from your disk. You can print any existing report file in this way; however, the data may be out of date because it is not coming from the database at the time of printing.
• The Popup Errors options controls whether errors, mainly SQL, are displayed in a popup window. Regardless of the setting, all errors are logged in the Trace window.
8. Click Compile.
You may also convert reports to 4GL procedures using the RWConv utility. For more information, see
