The Server Manager and ASOLib
The Server Manager is an OpenROAD Thin Client Application (TCA), which interfaces with the ASOLib 4GL library built into all OpenROAD Server images. ASOLib provides the external interfaces for the Server Manager to monitor and trace OpenROAD Server activity.
The OpenROAD Name Server is an OpenROAD Server application, used by clients to connect to an application by name rather than by hard-coded connection parameters. It is also responsible for the storage and retrieval of all OpenROAD Server configuration data in the installation's registry.
When the Server Manager is started, a local initialization file is read that holds Name Server net addresses. The OpenROAD Name Server process at each address is accessed, and configuration details and registration details are downloaded to the Server Manager client. You can make changes to configuration details, and when saved, all configuration details and registration details are replaced.
Each set of registration details usually represents an ASO process. System SCPs within ASOLib mean that the Server Manager can act as a client to multiple application instances simultaneously.
For registrations that have been configured with a housekeeping time interval, the Server Manager invokes housekeeping at the frequency configured for that registration and displays an overview of registered application instances across all Name Servers.
