Start OpenROAD Workbench
You can use OpenROAD to develop applications that interact with databases. To begin a development session, you must start Workbench and define a database connection.
When you start the Workbench for the first time, the OpenROAD Startup Assistant (wizard) runs.
To start OpenROAD Workbench for the first time
1. Click Start, All Programs, Actian OpenROAD 6.2, Workbench.
The OpenROAD splash screen appears briefly, and then the OpenROAD Startup Assistant opens.
2. Click Next on the wizard screens to progress through the process of creating a database or establishing a connection to an existing database.
You can connect to an existing database on a local machine or a remote host.
For more information about connection flags, see the SQL command in the Ingres Command Reference Guide. For more information about vnodes for remote connections, see the Ingres Network Management Utility (netutil) or Network Utility (ingnet) in the Ingres Connectivity Guide. You can access the latest documentation at http://docs.actian.com/.
For more information about creating a database, see the Ingres CREATEDB command in the Ingres Command Reference Guide.
After you have completed defining your first database connection, the Connect tab of the Workbench is displayed, with the defined connection displayed in the Connection Details portlet.
For more information about creating subsequent database connections, see Create a Database Connection Profile.
