Versions 2.x and earlier of the .NET Data Provider only support .NET Framework versions of Microsoft .NET and only run on Windows.

Version 3.x supports both .NET Framework and .NET Core. Applications built with .NET Core can run on multiple platforms, including Windows and Linux.

Version 3.x supersedes the 2.x version. The 2.x version will be supported for a period of time but will not be updated with new features.
