The Power of Encryption
While the database encryption feature does not secure data in all aspects of its life cycle, do not underestimate its power. Without proper care of the passphrase, the database owner himself can be locked out of the data!
With the passphrase, the data is transparently accessible. Without the passphrase, the data at rest is unreadable, meaningless bit patterns and the logical data therefore not accessible.
IMPORTANT!  If you lose the passphrase, encrypted data remains inaccessible.
