AuditMaster Basics
An Overview of AuditMaster Basics
The following topics cover the basics of AuditMaster use.

Logging in from an AuditMaster Client
AuditMaster requires a user account with name and password. The type of account determines access to AuditMaster menu commands.
User
A regular user is able to query and view audit records and manage audit record archives.
Administrator
In addition to the above user privileges, an AuditMaster administrator can view the status log, set audit configurations, manage users, adjust system settings, and set the audit filter.
Note The built-in user ID admin has the default password MASTER. Passwords are case-sensitive; user names are not. To change this password, see Changing Your User Password. For information on the relation of AuditMaster logins to database and OS logins, read Displaying Audit Records under PSQL Security.
1
In the data tree, right-click a server name to select Login, or double-click the server icon. To log in to the currently selected server, simply press Enter.
2
You now have access to the server you selected.
Note For the AuditMaster server to recognize your login request, you need first to establish a regular network client login.
Changing Your User Password
AuditMaster server access is password-protected. While logged in to a server, you can change your password for that server only. On other AuditMaster servers, your password may differ.
1
2
Select Server > Change Password.

4
The password is case-sensitive, can be up to 10 characters long, and may use any numbers or letters.
5
Your password is changed and must be used the next time you log in to AuditMaster.
Note The built-in user ID admin has the default password MASTER. Passwords are case-sensitive; user names are not. For information on the relationship of AuditMaster logins to database and Windows logins, read Displaying Audit Records under PSQL Security.
Running AuditMaster under PSQL Security
AuditMaster is compatible with all PSQL database security settings. AuditMaster installation adds the AuditMaster internal database to the PSQL DefaultDB data directory list. After installation, the security settings in DefaultDB provide the same protection for the AuditMaster database.
The following table summarizes typical security settings. The first two rows give the settings, the next two rows describe logins and permissions, and the last row lists the protection provided.

Additional Notes
When you have Database security policy under DefaultDB and you want to use AuditMaster Viewer from a remote client, in PCC you must enable Prompt for Client Credentials under Properties > Access for the PSQL server engine. This setting provides a login dialog in AM Viewer for the remote user.
See also information under Displaying Audit Records under PSQL Security.
Restarting the AuditMaster Event Handler
Most changes to AuditMaster configuration prompt you to restart the PSQL services before they take effect. Viewer clients must not be running during this operation, or network and database access errors will occur after the restart.

Using Shortcut Menus
You can right-click an item in the viewer to open a menu. The menu varies depending on what you select. The following menu appears when you right-click a server in the data tree.
