Installation Checklists

The following checklists and other information help prepare you for installation or upgrade. Before beginning, make sure your system meets the minimum hardware and software requirements for AuditMaster listed on the PSQL website.

Quick Checklist

Each checklist item is described in detail in the topics that follow.

You have taken the appropriate precautions before installing.

You have full administrator-level permissions and privileges on the system where you plan to install AuditMaster.

You have a license (unless you want a trial version).

At the end of the installation, you have access to the latest release notes.

Precautions

The PSQL database engine must be stopped and restarted after AuditMaster installation. If your business prohibits stopping the database during certain hours, install AuditMaster at an acceptable time.

Back up any important files on the target hard drive, including data files, before you proceed.

Before starting installation, disable any antivirus and antispyware applications. These may be reenabled immediately after installation is complete. If you do not disable antispyware, be prepared when prompted to allow various installation tasks to execute.

Permissions and Privileges

To install AuditMaster, you need the following:

Full administrator-level rights on the system where you are installing either AuditMaster or its viewer client

•

The File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks component must be enabled in the Local Area Connection properties on the PSQL server where AuditMaster is to monitor data.

Authorization License

If you enter no license key during installation, you will be able to audit data for an evaluation trial period. At the end of that time, if you do not enter a license key, AuditMaster will cease to monitor data but will otherwise not interfere with your PSQL system. After the trial period ends, you are still able to query audit records captured during the trial, although certain features may no longer be available.

To apply a license key , you may open PSQL Control Center and use select Tools > License Administrator or open a command prompt and run either clilcadm for 32-bit installations or w64clilcadm for 64-bit installations. For more information on license keys, see PSQL User's Guide.

No license key is required for the AuditMaster installation when you install on a remote PSQL client system, since the AuditMaster Viewer client does not require a license.

Release Notes

We recommend that you read the release notes in the readme_am.htm file for product news that could not be included in the user documentation but may be needed for successful AuditMaster installation and use.

The readme_am.htm file is located under the root directory of the download or the AuditMaster CD, as well as after installation in the default location C:\Program Files (x86)\Actian\PSQL\Audit\Docs.
