Btrieve 2 is a new Btrieve interface for developers of Zen database applications. The Btrieve 2 API offers a simplified, more intuitive alternative for sending the full set of Btrieve calls to the database engine. Zen developers can make use of the performance and flexibility of Btrieve without having to learn and manage the complexity of the original Btrieve API.

The Btrieve 2 API SDK includes the header files documenting the API as well as its 32- and 64-bit libraries. Starting with Zen v16, btrievePython provides a prebuilt client for Zen database

In addition, the SDK comes with SWIG (Simplified Wrapper and Interface Generator) files for a number of programming languages to enable developers to use them to access Btrieve via the C and C++ libraries.
