How the iimgmtsvr Remote Manager Server Works
The iimgmtsvr is a server process that has two purposes:
Facilitate the discovery of Actian database installations on a particular host machine
Enable remote management of those installations
Typically, iimgmtsvr is started as a service on Windows or a daemon process on Linux/UNIX when the system starts up and remains running until the system shuts down. Command line options control iimgmtsvr behavior and let you inquire about its status.
For the Director GUI to remotely manage an Actian database instance (or to even see that the instance exists), the management server (iimgmtsvr) for that instance must be running already. Make sure this process is started before using Director to connect to instance (see iimgmtsvr Command--Start the iimgmtsvr Process).
The first instance of iimgmtsvr started on any particular machine acts as the master server, responding to discovery requests to list the database installations on that machine. It always listens on port 16902 ('AA'-2), which cannot be changed. This port must therefore be opened for Director to attach to and manage remote installations behind a firewall.
