Stop Confirmation and Progress Dialog
Stopping an instance or component opens a confirmation and progress dialog. This dialog prompts you to confirm the stop action. It contains the following fields and controls:
Installation label
Displays the machine, instance code, and version string for the instance to be stopped
Stop button
(Instances only) Stops the instance, if running
Progress indicator
Visually indicates the progress of stopping the instance or component, reflecting the number of components stopped out of the total number to be stopped
Shutdown log
Displays the processes being executed during shutdown
Advanced Options
(Instances only) Displays the following options:
Normal
Shuts down the installation in the typical fashion
Force (-force)
Forces the shutdown of active servers in the instance without waiting for users to disconnect
Kill (-kill)
Shuts down the instance without waiting for currently executing transactions to complete. Transaction recovery will be required when the instance is restarted. Any database processes that cannot be shut down by conventional means are terminated. We recommend you use this option only as a last resort.
Force and Kill (-force -kill)
Forces the shutdown of active servers in the instance without waiting for users to disconnect. Shuts down the instance without waiting for currently executing transactions to complete. Transaction recovery will be required when the instance is restarted. Any database processes that cannot be shut down by conventional means are terminated. We recommend you use this option only as a last resort.
Immediate (-immediate)
Shuts down the instance immediately. It does not wait for currently executing transactions to complete. Transaction recovery will be required when the instance is restarted.

Closes the dialog
