Profile Dialog
You use the Profile dialog to create and modify user profiles. A profile is a collection of user settings or attributes that you can assign to a class of users. When you create a user, you can assign a user profile as a kind of template for a number of users.
You can access this dialog to create a new profile in the following ways:
• From the Profiles folder context menu: New Profile
• From an existing profile node context menu: New Profile
• From the Database menu tab:

You can access this dialog to modify an existing profile from an existing profile node context menu: Modify.
The Profile dialog contains the following pages:
General Page (Profile)
The General page of the Profile dialog lets you define core profile configuration information. The General page contains the following fields:
Name
Specifies a name for the user profile
Default Group
Selects the default group for the user profile. This list is disabled if there are no groups configured for the installation. To assign a default group to a profile, you first must
create the group (see
Create a New Group).
Expires
Specifies whether the user profile expires. If checked, you can specify an expiration date for the profile.
Expiration Date
Specifies an optional expiration date for the profile. Any valid future date can be used. When this date is reached, users assigned to this profile are no longer able to log on. This field is enabled only if the Expires check box is selected. Clicking the date drop-down shows a date picker control that lets you select a date easily.
Privileges Page (Profile)
The Privileges page of the Profile dialog lets you assign rights that will be applied to a user profile, regardless of the database to which the user is connected. For any privilege, select the Active By Request check box to apply the privilege to the user profile.
You can assign the following privileges to a user profile:
Create Database
Enables the users in the profile to create and destroy databases
Set Trace Flags
Enables user access to tracing and debugging features
Security Administrator
Enables the user to perform security-related operations, such as impersonating other users, and to avoid certain security checks, such as database privilege checks
Operator
Enables the user to perform database backups and other maintenance operations
Auditor
Enables the user to query the security audit log
Maintain Locations
Enables the user to manage database and file locations
Maintain Security Audit
Enables the user to control what information is written to the security audit log
Maintain Users
Enables the user to perform various user-related functions, such as creating users and roles
Options Page (Profile)
The Options page of the Profile dialog contains all other miscellaneous configuration information. The Options page contains the following fields pertaining to security auditing:
All Events
Specifies whether security auditing is enabled for all events
Query Text
Specifies whether security auditing is enabled for query text
