Understanding IngresSync
IngresSync Tool
IngreSync is a Java based application tool that allows users to take advantage of the incremental rollforward feature. The primary function of IngresSync is to keep a source Ingres database synched to one or more target databases on remote nodes. A typical example to describe this would be through a primary production database instance and a disaster recovery instance. If the primary production instance becomes unavailable, the disaster recovery instance can be used as a back up and becomes the functioning production instance.
The primary production instance is referred to as the source and the disaster recovery instance(s) as the target(s). IngresSync is used to designate the source and target instances, keep the target instances synchronized with the source, and bring the target instance on line in case of source failure.
Synchronization is achieved by periodically copying dump, journal, and checkpoint files from the source to target(s) and by applying transaction changes to each target database instance.
