Introduction
This document will guide you through installing, configuring, and using Vector in Hadoop (hereafter VectorH) in the context of a “first steps” evaluation.
Actian Vector, Hadoop, and Actian VectorH
Actian Vector is known for delivering the highest performance SQL execution by using modern concepts such as in-memory computing and innovative approaches to traditional techniques such as columnar storage architectures.
Hadoop is revolutionizing modern computing by providing comprehensive data processing functionality and vastly reducing data management costs. This is achieved using a framework of distributed storage and processing of very large data sets on clusters built from commodity hardware.
Actian VectorH combines Vector and Hadoop technologies by placing execution capability directly in Hadoop and using the underlying HDFS storage structure for data. Operating in Hadoop transforms Actian Vector into a highly scalable MPP database able to operate on Big Data scale data sets with predictable and scalable performance.
