New Server Connection Definition Dialog
You use the New Server Connection Definition dialog to create Server Connection Definitions (formerly known as vnodes). You access the dialog in the ways described in
Creating Server Connection Definitions.
The General page lets you specify user credentials and connection information for the Server Connection Definition. It contains the following fields:
Definition Name
Specifies the name for the Server Connection Definition. This name must be unique and conform to
object naming standards (see
Object Naming Rules).
User Name
Specifies the name of the user recognized by the installation on the remote node. This user name will be used to log in to the remote system.
Password / Confirm Password
(Required) Specifies the password for the user as recognized by that installation
Login information is private
Indicates whether the login information is private. When selected, the login definition is available only to the user who created it. If cleared, the login definition is global, meaning it is available to all users on the local installation.
Default: checked
Node
Specifies the name of the remote network node for this user
Default: name of the Server Connection Definition
Protocol
Specifies the communication protocol to be used for connection. Available protocols are platform dependent and include:
• tcp_ip
• wintcp
• lanman
• nvlspx
Default: tcp_ip
Listen Address
Specifies the database listen address (port) on the remote node
Default: II
Connection information is private
Specifies whether the connection information is private. When selected, the connection definition is available only to the user who created it. If cleared, the connection definition is global, meaning it is available to all users on the local installation.
Default: cleared
Test connection after saving
Specifies whether the connection should be tested when you save the definition (click OK)
Default: checked
The New Server Connection dialog contains the following controls:
OK button
Saves the Server Connection Definition and closes the dialog
Cancel button
Closes the dialog without saving any changes
