How You Can Use Server Connection Definitions
A Server Connection Definition defines the connection information for a database on a different server (a remote database). A Server Connection Definition is also known as a virtual node, or vnode.
You can create, modify, and delete Server Connection Definitions. You can also test or ping a Server Connection Definition to establish connectivity and validate supplied credentials. You can create or modify connection information, login credentials, or attributes for existing Server Connection Definitions.
You can connect to an installation through a Server Connection Definition using the Connect to Installation dialog.
You can manage attributes, logins, and connection data for Server Connection Definitions using advanced management options.
Note:  Starting with Actian Vector 3.0, you can connect to an installation as a DBMS-only user (meaning the user has no operating system credentials). If you connect this way, you will not be able to manage your Server Connection Definitions, and the branch in the Instance Explorer will be disabled. This means you must connect as an operating system user in order to perform these operations.
