Testing a Server Connection Definition
You can test Server Connection Definitions within an installation to determine whether they are able to be connected to. Connection testing also indicates whether the connection definition is correctly configured and its supplied credentials are valid.
You can test a Server Connection Definition when you create it (see Create a Server Connection Definition).
Or you can test an existing Server Connection Definition (see Test a Server Connection Definition). Before you can test an existing Server Connection Definition:
A database installation must be currently connected.
A Server Connection Definition node must be selected in the Instance Explorer.
You can test a Server Connection Definition by right-clicking a Server Connection Definition node in the Instance Explorer and selecting Test Connection on the context menu. For more information, see Test a Server Connection Definition.
When you test a Server Connection Definition:
If the test connection is successful
An information box is displayed, indicating that the test was successful.
If the test connection fails
A warning dialog is displayed, informing that the test was unsuccessful. Errors are listed in the error log.
