Server Connection Definitions Folder
The Server Connection Definitions folder consists of a collection of Server Connection Definition nodes—one for each Server Connection Definition that has been configured for the installation.
Server Connection Definition (vnode)
A Server Connection Definition defines the connection information for a database on a different server (a remote database). A Server Connection Definition is also known as a virtual node, or vnode.
Each node represents a Server Connection Definition in an Actian database installation. You may connect to these definitions to access the instance. The node title is the name of the Server Connection Definition.
The Server Connection Definitions folder contains the following subfolders:
• Logins
• Connection Data
• Attributes
These folders contain at least one node for each configured login, connection data, and attribute, respectively.
The context menu of a Server Connection Definition node lets you create, modify, and delete Server Connection Definitions; add an installation password; and test a connection.
Login Node
Each login node represents login information for a Server Connection Definition. The title of the node is the user name of the user logged in. If the login is private, “[private]” is appended to the name.
Login nodes contain no child nodes.
Right-clicking a login node and selecting Modify opens the
Modify Login dialog (see
Modify a Login for an Existing Server Connection Definition), where you can view or edit the login information.
Connection Data Node
Each node represents connection data information for a Server Connection Definition. The title of a connection data node has the following format:
definition_name; protocol; listen_address
If the connection definition is private, “[private]” is appended to the name.
Right-clicking a connection data node and selecting Modify opens the
Modify Connection dialog (see
Modify a Connection for an Existing Server Connection Definition), where you can view or edit the connection data details.
Attribute Node
Each attribute node represents an attribute for a Server Connection Definition. The title of an attribute node has the following format:
attribute_name = value
Attribute nodes contain no child nodes.
Right-clicking an attribute node and selecting Modify opens the
Modify Attribute dialog (see
Attribute Dialog), where you can view or edit the attribute’s details.
