Explorer¶
Explorer is where business teams get answers from their data in Actian AI Analyst. You ask questions in plain language, review the results, and come back to them later. You don't need to know SQL or how the data is modeled.
Explorer is the counterpart to Studio. Data teams build and configure AI Analysts in Studio, and everyone else uses them in Explorer.
Access¶
What you can do depends on the Capabilities you hold in each Workspace:

With Chat you can:
- Start, continue and share conversations.
- Save and share Artifacts and build Reports.
- Read and create Scheduled Insights.
- Read your Inbox.
- Use your team's Saved Prompts. Creating, editing or deleting saved prompts needs Edit.
- Rate answers.
Administrators assign Capabilities in Settings → Members and Settings → Workspaces, often through the presets Administrator, Editor, Viewer or Billing contact. See Members and Workspaces. Members with Manage members in a Workspace, or Manage members and access for the organization, can change Capabilities. They can't grant a Capability they don't hold themselves.
Explorer without Chat
Some organization-level Capabilities, such as Manage billing and Manage inference, open Explorer but don't include Chat. Members who hold only those Capabilities see Explorer without New task, Inbox, Artifacts, Scheduled Insights or the conversation list. Ask an administrator for Chat in a Workspace if you need to ask questions.
Workspaces¶
Explorer always works in the active Workspace. The AI Analysts you can pick, your conversations and your artifacts all belong to that Workspace. Conversations and artifacts can be shared only with people who have access to the same Workspace.
If you have access to two or more Workspaces, open the menu at the top of the sidebar, point to your organization's name under Organizations, and choose a Workspace under Workspaces. The name of the active Workspace appears under the organization name at the top of the sidebar.
Which AI Analysts you see¶
- Members with only the Chat capability see only AI Analysts that are deployed and shared with them, either with everyone in the Workspace or with them specifically.
- Members with the Edit capability also see draft analysts, marked Not deployed. These are visible only to Studio users until they are deployed.
If your organization has no language model connected, Explorer shows Chat needs an LLM endpoint instead of an answer. See When the AI Analyst can't answer.
Mobile¶
Explorer works on phones and small screens. Studio needs a desktop-sized window: on a small screen it shows Studio needs a bigger screen with a Go to Explorer button.
