Suggestions

Suggestions are ready-made questions that appear in Explorer when a user starts a conversation with your AI Analyst. They show new users what the Analyst can answer and surface metrics they might not think to ask about.

Info

Looking for a way to save and reuse your team's proven queries? That's Saved Prompts, a separate feature for inserting known-good questions with /, rather than for discovery.

Availability

  • Who can do this: members with the Edit capability in the active Workspace can add, edit, generate and delete suggestions. Members who can use the AI Analyst in Explorer see its suggestions there. See What users see in Explorer.

How suggestions are organized

Suggestions are grouped into categories (for example, "Revenue Analytics" or "Customer Insights"). Each category holds cards. A card has:

  • a Title: the short text users see in Explorer (required), and
  • a Body: the full question that is loaded into the message box when a user picks the card. If the Body is empty, the Title is used instead.

The Suggestions row on the Analyst's Overview tab shows how many suggestion cards the Analyst has.

Generate suggestions automatically

AI Analyst can generate suggestions from the Analyst's linked models, metrics, glossary and instructions.

  1. Make sure the Analyst has at least one model linked on the Models tab. Without one, Re-generate All isn't shown. If the Analyst has no suggestions yet, the tab also says Link at least one model on the Models tab to generate suggestions. and offers a Go to Models button. See Models, Metrics and Glossary access.
  2. In Studio, open the AI Analyst and select the Suggestions tab.
  3. Click Re-generate All, then confirm with Re-generate.

    Warning

Re-generate All replaces every existing category and card for this Analyst with newly generated suggestions, including ones you added by hand.

  4. Wait while Generating suggestions… is shown.

  5. Review the generated cards, then edit or delete any that don't fit.
  6. Add custom cards for business-critical questions afterwards.

If generation fails, the tab shows Re-generating suggestions failed. Check that the analyst has linked models, then try again.

Add a category

  1. Click Add category.
  2. Enter a Category name. Category names must be unique within this Analyst.
  3. Click Save changes at the bottom of the tab.

Add a card

  1. Click Add card in a category.
  2. Enter a short Title (required). This is what users see.
  3. Enter the full question as the Body.
  4. Click Save changes.

To discard a draft category or card, click Cancel in its form.

Edit or delete suggestions

  • Edit a card: click the pencil icon (Edit card), change the Title or Body, then click Save changes.
  • Delete a card: click the trash icon (Delete card) and confirm. This permanently removes the card.
  • Delete a category: click the trash icon next to the category name (Delete category). If the category has cards, you're asked to confirm, because deleting it removes the category and all of its cards.

You can also ask the Steward to rewrite an Analyst's suggestions. The Steward replaces the whole set of categories and cards. By default it asks for your approval first; this depends on the Write AI Analyst tool permission in the Steward's settings.

What users see in Explorer

Suggestions appear only to users who can use the AI Analyst in Explorer: users it's deployed to, and members with the Edit capability.

When a user starts a conversation with the Analyst:

  • the first three suggestions appear under Or try a suggested question:, and
  • the rest are behind View more, which opens Suggested questions with the cards grouped by category.

Choosing a suggestion loads the question into the message box without sending it, so the user can edit it first.

Best practices

  • Keep suggestions specific and actionable (for example, "Show revenue by region for Q4" rather than "Tell me about revenue").
  • Write a short, scannable Title and put the precise question in the Body.
  • Include a mix of simple lookups and deeper analyses.
  • Update suggestions when you add data sources or models. Remember that Re-generate All overwrites hand-written cards, so regenerate first and add custom cards afterwards.
  • Use category names that match your business terminology.
