Integrations

Slack and Microsoft Teams are connected from Connections in Studio, not from Settings. Once connected, you can deploy AI Analysts to channels so your team can ask questions where they already talk, and route alerts to channels.

Availability

  • Who can do this: members with the Edit capability in the active Workspace can connect, reconnect and remove Slack and Microsoft Teams, and deploy AI Analysts to channels.
  • Deployment: Actian SaaS and self-managed deployments. Not available on air-gapped self-managed deployments. On a self-managed deployment, Slack and Microsoft Teams must also be set up by your operator.

Where to find Slack and Teams

  1. In Studio, click Connections.
  2. Click Add connection.
  3. Under Channels (Deploy your AI Analysts where your team already talks.), choose Slack or Microsoft Teams.

Connected Slack workspaces and Teams tenants are listed under Channels in the Connections list. Use Search connections… to find one. A connected workspace or tenant belongs to your organization, and you can connect more than one of each.

Connect Slack

  1. In Studio, go to Connections and click Add connection.
  2. Under Channels, click Slack. You go straight to Slack.
  3. Approve the AI Analyst app for your Slack workspace.
  4. When you return, you see Connecting your Slack workspace… and then Slack workspace connected. The workspace is listed under Channels.

For a full walkthrough, see Slack.

Connect Microsoft Teams

  1. In Studio, go to Connections and click Add connection.
  2. Under Channels, click Microsoft Teams. The Connect Microsoft Teams dialog opens.
  3. Enter your Microsoft 365 Tenant ID. Optionally enter a Tenant name so you can recognize it later.
  4. Click Download app package. Your Microsoft 365 admin uploads this package in the Teams admin center to install the bot in a team.
  5. Click Connect. The tenant is connected, but the bot can't be reached until it's used once.
  6. In a channel of that team, @mention the bot and send any message. AI Analyst detects the first mention and finishes activation. Click Check again to refresh, or Finish later to come back to it.

Until the first mention, the tenant's status is Waiting for first mention. Open it from the Connections list and click Finish setup to return to the activation steps.

For a full walkthrough, including the Teams admin center steps, see Microsoft Teams.

Note

If Download app package shows Teams is not configured for this deployment, Microsoft Teams hasn't been set up on your deployment. On a self-managed deployment, contact your operator.

Manage a connected workspace or tenant

Click a Slack workspace or Teams tenant under Channels in the Connections list. Its page shows the status in the header and an Integration summary with Provider, Status, Workspace, Workspace ID, Connected by and Connected on.

Status Meaning What to do
Connected Working normally. Nothing.
Waiting for first mention A Teams tenant that hasn't been activated yet. Click Finish setup.
Reconnection required The workspace stopped accepting requests. Click Reconnect and authorize again.
Disconnected The connection was lost. Click Reconnect.

Remove a workspace or tenant

  1. Open the Slack workspace or Teams tenant from the Connections list.
  2. Click the Remove (trash) icon.
  3. In Remove integration, click Remove.

The workspace is disconnected from your organization and its channel deployments are removed. Existing tasks and their history are kept.

Deploy an AI Analyst to a channel

  1. Open the AI Analyst in Studio.
  2. Click Deploy and choose Slack or Teams.
  3. In Deploy to a channel, choose the Workspace, then the Team (Teams only) and the Channel.
  4. Under Confirm access, read the notice and select I understand and want to deploy.
  5. Click Deploy. You see Analyst deployed.

In these screens, Workspace is the Slack workspace or Microsoft Teams tenant you connected, not an AI Analyst Workspace. The same applies to Workspace and Workspace ID in the Integration summary.

The Deployments list shows every channel where the AI Analyst answers questions. Each channel can have only one AI Analyst. People use it by @mentioning the bot in the channel; direct messages to the bot aren't supported.

Warning

Deploying an AI Analyst to a channel gives everyone in the channel, including guests without an AI Analyst account, read access to that AI Analyst's semantic layer and the data it can query. Channel users without an account take a Seat when they first use it. See Seats.

Send alerts to a channel

To choose which Slack or Teams channel receives a Workspace's Steward inbox, connection failure and high latency alerts, go to Settings → Administration → Notifications.
