Charts¶
The Charts page sets your organization's Chart theme: the series color palette, an optional typeface, and the axis text and gridline colors used on the charts your AI Analysts create.
Your organization has one chart theme. It applies to charts from every AI Analyst in every Workspace, for every member. You cannot set different chart colors per AI Analyst or per Workspace. If nobody has changed the theme, charts use the product default.
Availability
- Who can do this: members with the Manage organization capability can save changes. Any member with Studio access can open the page.
- Deployment: Actian SaaS and self-managed deployments.
To open it, go to Settings → Administration → Charts in Studio.
Saving needs Manage organization
The page does not lock its controls for members without Manage organization. They can edit the form, but saving, uploading a typeface or resetting fails with We couldn't save the chart theme. Please try again. To get the capability, ask a member who has Manage members and access (see Members).
Change the series colors¶
The Palette section has one color field for each series, Series 1 to Series 8. Until you change them, they hold the product's default colors. The first series in a chart uses Series 1, the second uses Series 2, and so on. If a chart has more series than the palette has colors, the colors repeat in order.
- Go to Settings → Administration → Charts.
- Under Palette, click the swatch next to a Series field to pick a color, or type a hex value in the form
#RRGGBB(for example,#6366f1). - Repeat for any other series you want to change.
- Check the result under Preview.
- Click Save in the bar at the bottom of the page. When the save succeeds, you see Chart theme saved.
You can recolor each slot, but you cannot add or remove series slots on this page.
Save stays disabled while any color field holds a value that isn't a six-digit hex color.
Use your own typeface¶
You can upload a font file so chart labels use your organization's typeface.
- Under Typeface, click Upload typeface (or Replace typeface if one is already set).
- Pick a TTF or OTF file up to 1 MB.
- Check the Preview, then click Save.
To go back to the product font, click Remove typeface, then click Save.
If the file is not accepted, you see Pick a TTF or OTF font file. or That font is larger than 1 MB. Pick a smaller one.
Change the axis and gridline colors¶
Under Axes and grid, set:
- Axis text: the color of axis labels.
- Gridlines: the color of the chart's gridlines.
Pick a color or type a #RRGGBB value, then click Save.
Preview your changes¶
The Preview section draws sample charts with your unsaved changes. Use the Bar, Line, Area, Point, Arc and Combo buttons to switch between sample chart types. The preview uses sample data, not your organization's real charts.
Save, discard or reset¶
Changes on this page are not saved automatically. When you edit anything, a bar appears at the bottom of the page with Unsaved changes, Save and Discard.
- Save applies your changes to the organization's charts.
- Discard returns the form to the saved theme.
To go back to the product default:
- Click Reset at the top of the page.
- In the Reset chart theme? dialog, click Reset.
Reset restores the product palette, axis colors and typeface right away, and discards any unsaved edits. You don't need to click Save afterwards. Reset is unavailable while your organization is on the product default and you have no unsaved edits.
Where the chart theme applies¶
| Applies to | Does not apply to |
|---|---|
| Charts the AI Analyst creates, in conversations and on Artifacts in Explorer and Studio | AI Analyst's own product charts, such as those on Usage and AI Analyst monitoring pages |
| Charts you copy or download with Copy PNG or Download PNG | Charts in scheduled insight emails, which currently use the product default theme |
| Chart images the AI Analyst posts to Slack or Microsoft Teams | Charts that Slack or Microsoft Teams draw themselves; these keep the channel's own styling |
In Slack and Microsoft Teams, most charts are drawn by the channel itself. AI Analyst sends a themed chart image instead when the channel can't draw that kind of chart, and in Slack also when a reply contains more than two charts. Chart images are always drawn in the light color scheme.
Supported chart types¶
AI Analysts can create these chart types:
| Chart type | Variants |
|---|---|
| Bar | Vertical or horizontal; stacked by color, or grouped side by side |
| Line | |
| Area | |
| Point (scatter) | |
| Arc | Pie, or donut |
| Combo | Bars and a line sharing one value axis |
Other chart types, such as heatmaps, are not supported. Each chart is checked when the AI Analyst creates it. If it uses an unsupported type, the AI Analyst has to make a supported chart instead, so you don't see an error. An older chart Artifact that uses an unsupported type is shown as a table of its data. If it has no data rows, you see a message such as Unsupported mark "rect" instead, and it cannot be downloaded as a PNG.
When a chart has more legend entries than fit, the legend shows +N more for the rest.
For tips on asking for a particular chart, see Tips for quick analysis.
Troubleshooting¶
| What you see | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| We couldn't save the chart theme. Please try again. | You don't have Manage organization, or the save failed. | Ask a member with Manage members and access to give you Manage organization, or ask someone who has it to make the change. If you have it, try again. |
| Save is disabled | A color field contains an invalid value. | Enter each color as # followed by six hex digits. |
| Colors don't change after you edit them | You haven't clicked Save, or the save failed. | Click Save and check for Chart theme saved. If you see the save error, see the first row. |
| A chart in Slack or Teams doesn't use your colors | The channel drew the chart itself. | This is expected. Only chart images that AI Analyst sends use the theme. |
| A scheduled insight email chart doesn't use your colors | Email chart images use the product default theme. | This is expected at present. |
